PRE WAX
Body Waxing -Please allow at least 2 weeks of growth before your appointment. We want the hair to be at least 1/4 long so that we can get the best results. If the hair is too short it may not be picked up by the wax. Please avoid trimming before your appointment. -Avoid exposure to the sun/ tanning beds before your appointment as it can make your skin more sensitive and susceptible to lifting. -Be advised that waxing exfoliates the skin and can remove your spray tan, best to avoid getting sprayed before your appointment! Pain Management -Taking an ibuprofen at least 30 minutes before your appointment can help reduce any discomfort you may experience during your wax by dulling the pain receptors in your body. -Limit your caffeine intake on the day of your appointment as caffeine can stimulate the nervous system, causing you to be more sensitive. -Although waxing while on your monthly cycle is totally acceptable, please be advised that your senses may be heightened causing some excess discomfort. Facial Waxing -Many products can cause negative affects when waxing the face due to their strong ingredients. Some ingredients to avoid when receiving facial waxing are: Accutane, Differin, Retin A/Retinol, Glycolic acid/AHA’s, ProActive, Avita, Benzoyl peroxide, Salicylic acid/ BHA’s. Also be aware of any medications that alert you to be careful in the sun as those will also cause skin sensitivity. How long should you wait after using these ingredients before getting waxed?

POST WAX
First 24 hours: -Please avoid touching the waxed areas after your appointment. Bacteria on your fingers can enter the open follicle and cause irritation or breakouts. -Avoid the pool, ocean, and jacuzzi. Dirty water also contains bacteria which can cause irritation & breakouts. -Avoid exercising, and saunas. Unfortunately sweat can also cause irritation & breakouts after waxing. -Avoid face makeup (post facial waxing.) Avoid deodorant (post underarm wax.) -Chemical peels should be avoided for at least one week post facial waxing. At Home Care: -Use your exfoliating glove 3x per week in the shower, in circular motions, against the direction of the hair growth. Regular exfoliation (once you're no longer tender) is highly important! One of the great benefits of waxing is that your hair will begin to grow in much thinner and finer. If you are not exfoliating the layer of dead skin cells off then your hair may have trouble breaking through the surface which can cause an ingrown. -Try to shower immediately after exercising to avoid irritation from sweating. -Apply Serious Serum (sold at The Prickly Pear) daily on clean dry skin. Serious Serum can be used as treatment OR preventative care to combat ingrown hairs and irritation. *Whether this is your first time waxing, or you are on a regular schedule, it can be important to follow a few steps before & after your appointments to ensure your experience is as comfortable and easy as possible. |
